What is Habitat for Humanity, McNairy County?
Habitat for Humanity, McNairy County is an affiliate holistic ministry that seeks to help eliminate poverty housing from the world and to make decent shelter a matter ofconscience and action.
How does it work?
Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds homes with the help of the homeowners and local sponsors. Houses are sold to partner families at no profit to the Affiliate, and no-interest mortgages are issued over a fixed period. Habitat houses in the McNairy County area will sell for approximately $50,000. Small monthly mortgage payments, including taxes and insurance, are repaid over 25 to 30 years. The principle is deposited into a revolving “Fund for Humanity” account, which then supports the construction of more houses.
Who are “Sponsors”?
Sponsors are local churches, businesses or groups that make the conscious decision to help eliminate poverty housing. Sponsors provide volunteer labor, funding for the construction and serve as liaison to the partnering family. Sponsors are vital to the ongoing work and ministry of all Habitats for Humanity!
How is McNairy Habitat for Humanity funded?
Habitat for Humanity receives funding from many sources. Churches, fundraising events, local sponsors, and private donations provide cash funding. Various individuals, companies, and community groups provide donations of land, building materials, tools, labor, and other supplies. McNairy County Habitat has been the recipient of the TN Housing Development Agency(THDA) Grant funding on multiple occasions!
